Are you looking to…

  • Actively demonstrate your personal values by serving your community?
  • Get a broader perspective on what’s happening among local families?
  • Gain the type of experience that employers like to see on your resume?
  • Some or all of the above?

Sierra Nevada Children’s Services has a variety of volunteer opportunities for those who wish to be a part of our team – whether for one day or a longer term commitment. We are grateful for our Volunteers – they provide much needed support in achieving the agency’s goals to help empower local families.

Whatever your motivation, and availability, SNCS welcomes the opportunity to work with good people who want to contribute their free time and skills to good causes.

ONE-TIME OPPORTUNITIES

Events (examples)

  • Children’s Service Award – SNCS-sponsored community recognition event held in April of each year. Community members are nominated for exceptional service to local children and families. Designated honoree is recognized with an award dinner. Volunteers may be needed for event set-up/clean-up, greeting guests, making decorations, sending out invitations, phone calls, etc.
  • Day of the Young Child – Fun community event designed for young children and their families. Held yearly in mid-May during the national “Week of the Young Child” at Sierra College, Nevada County Campus. Public and private schools, family child care homes, non-profits, and child-centered professions present resources and “hands-on” activities for young children. Volunteers may be needed to distribute surveys or flyers, answer questions about the agency, host a SNCS booth, etc.
  • Parent Leadership Council – Share your voice with other local parents in discussing community issues that matter to you. Meetings are monthly in our Family Resource Center and are held by and for parents. A great opportunity to socialize, network, and be heard in a setting where your opinions can truly initiate change. For more information, contact our Family Resource Center Manager, Cindy Santa Cruz-Reed at (530) 272-8866 X. 203.

Projects (examples)

  • Clerical – Help with big “mailings”, photocopying, putting together manuals, newsletters, etc.
  • Creative – Decorate bulletin boards, make unique craft items for staff and community recognition, etc.

ON-GOING OPPORTUNITIES (examples)

  • Administrative – Help with maintenance of files and other records. Provide clerical and organizational support to staff for regularly-scheduled meetings and classes.
  • General Upkeep – Help maintain our lending library of toys and books. Wash and sanitize toys. Restock and update parent brochures, keeping informational handout areas organized.
  • Board of Directors / Committees – Interested in making a more demanding – yet rewarding – commitment to the Agency? Consider applying for a position on our Board of Directors or as a community member on one of our Committees.

More… We are continually looking for creative ways to expand our Volunteer Program. New opportunities will become available throughout the year. Let us know if you want us to update you!

And, if you have a special skill or talent that you feel would contribute in a unique way, please let us know. We welcome the opportunity to brainstorm new, creative opportunities to further mutual goals.
