Promotora Outreach to the Spanish Speaking Community
The Promotora Program provides health education and advocacy
services to connect Spanish speaking families with community
healthcare and other resources.
Promotoras offer a health education curriculum including:
- Workshops on obesity, nutrition, gestational and adult
diabetes, cardiovascular health, oral health, asthma, maternal
health, child development, mental health, family budgeting,
literacy, child discipline and domestic violence
- Physical activities including swimming in season and
exercise classes for fitness
- Connections to services for health, school, social services
and transportation; to classes in child development, ESL,
and health issues; to insurance enrollment; and to information
on nutrition, obesity, asthma, prenatal care, oral health,
well baby, immunization, and diabetes
Collaborations include:
Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital - The Maternity Health Center
and dietician, Foothill Healthy Babies,WIC, Miners Clinic,
Sierra College, Grass Valley School District, Nevada Union
High School Distric, The Mind Institute, Sierra Care Physicians,
Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse Council, UC Davis, Manzanita
