CHILD CARE RESOURCE & REFERRAL
SNCS provides child care resource and referral services to all families throughout Sierra and Nevada counties. We believe that choosing child care starts with asking the right questions, so as part of our Child Care Resource & Referral we offer technical assistance for parents, which includes child care referrals, child development information, education on quality child care, the Parent Newsletter, parenting classes, and support groups.

The New Family Post is fun and informative – packed with activities, scholarship contests, parenting tips and local resources for the families of Nevada County, in Northern California. The New Family Post prints 6 times a year and is distributed free throughout Nevada County.  Click below for an on line edition.

CHILD CARE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS
SNCS administers various programs (California Alternative Payment Program, CalWORKs and California Family Child Care Homes Education “Network” (FCCHEN) that are funded by federal, state and local governments to help income eligible families pay for a part or all of their child care costs. Families may also pay a share of cost on a sliding scale based on income and family size. Parents may choose from child care options such as Family Child Care Homes and Child Care Centers, TrustLine Child Care Providers or Relative Care Child Care Providers. A child is eligible for these programs until his/her 13th birthday.

“Sierra Nevada Children’s Services (SNCS) has allowed us to provide exceptional, quality child care for our children that we would not otherwise be able to afford.

Consequently, we are allowed the freedom to be contributing members of society and positive role models to our children.  We are able to work away from home and have both been able to return to college so that we may provide a future for our family that may otherwise have been bleak.

With the help of the caring workers at SNCS and through the child care subsidy assistance, we are able to know hope, freedom and peace of mind.

We are thankful everyday that we have been fortunate enough to have been blessed with the presence of this program in our lives.”

CHILD DEVELOPMENT
SNCS provides one-on-one parent support and professional development training for child care providers.

SNCS lends child development toys and resources to parents and providers through the Child Development Resource Library. The Resource Library contains a variety of developmentally appropriate toys and materials for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, school age children and children with special needs that can be borrowed by parents, child care providers and professionals for use at home or school. Also available are books, DVDs, a Die Cut and videos on a variety of educational and parenting topics.

SNCS offers hands-on workshops for licensed and licensed-exempt providers.

FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER/FAMILY ADVOCACY
Sierra Nevada Children’s Services is a Family Resource Center (FRC) that addresses a vast number of family concerns and issues by building relationships and connections in our community. The FRC provides parental support, family budgeting programs and promotion of healthy parenting practices. We support families through child development education, in-home parenting programs and information on proper nutrition for dental and overall health. The Parent Leadership Council assists with evaluation of all our programs. This helps make our programs responsive to community and family needs.
