Oral Health Outreach
SNCS is eager to educate families on the impact that oral
health has upon overall health. New research indicates that
dental caries are a disease state and need not be the norm. SNCS
has initiated oral health education outreach beginning with
pregnant mothers and presenting a new dental paradigm that
views caries as a disease and recognizes that the status of
maternal oral health (or that of the primary caregiver) has
a direct impact on the child. Parents are educated about
food choices, dietary patterns, fluoride and oral hygiene,
improving clinical outcomes by addressing the infectious characteristics
of the disease, reducing exposure of children to fermentable
carbohydrates, and developing safe and effective antibacterial
approaches to reducing the number or oral bacteria in children.
