"Family Child Care Providers who want to go above and beyond the requirements of licensing to ensure that the children in their care are receiving the best care possible"

An Early Childhood Network can best be described as a child care center without walls. What does this mean? A center without walls has...

  • Qualified caregivers that receive on-going professional development
  • Child profiles that track the developmental progress that the enrolled child is making
  • A parent advisory committee and parent conferences
  • A director who provides oversight of the center.

The only thing missing is the building. In a Network, children are enrolled and placed in one of the family child care homes participating in the Network. The Network is regulated and monitored by the same state laws as child care centers. Sierra Nevada Children's Services operates two Early Childhood Networks. Our first Network, the Infant/Toddler Network, serves infants and toddlers up to age 2. Our newest Network, the Preschool Home Care Network, will serve preschool age children up to age 5. Priority will be given to children aging-out of our Infant/ Toddler program.

The Sierra Nevada Children's Services' Early Childhood Network provides training and quality assurance for network caregivers that have children 0 - 5 years old in their care. A special grant was awarded to SNCS to bring together Family Child Care Home Providers willing to go above and beyond the state requirements to provide the best early care and development to the children in their care. These caregivers receive additional training and support through the Network.

In May of 2000 the first group of caregivers graduated and became the foundation of our Early Childhood Network. Sierra Nevada Children's Services, then enrolled children In their care. The Network Director monitors the children's development through observation and assessment and works regularly with their parents to ensure the family supports their child's learning and development as part of the Network Team.

Today our Network caregivers continue to receive monthly training and consultation support. The Network has a wealth of child development materials available for caregivers to use with the children in their homes. Network Providers receive help in filling openings in their programs and support in guiding the children and families in their care. Most importantly, network caregivers are connected to each other as a group of friends and associates that share common goals and interests.

Presently we are seeking to grow our network by bringing in more Family Child Care Home Providers that want to be part of this wonderfully supportive group. Please feel free to contact our Grass Valley Office if you are interested in becoming part of our exciting Early Childhood Network!
