The End of a Chapter
A Fond Farewell to the Family Post

By Cori Bruce, Executive Director,
Sierra Nevada Children's Services

Printed in the Family Post: Spring Issue 2008

The original vision for the Family Post was simple. Give timeless and practical advice in order to offer help, provide guidance, and answer questions. Over the years the Family Post has blossomed beyond the original vision. The Family Post created a bridge for families new to Nevada and Sierra Counties to meet local families. Past issues have been resource materials to a number of agencies. It served as a planning guide for weekend family fun and as a current community connection.

So why are we feeling melancholy over a farewell to something so inanimate?

Well, because there was plenty of flesh and bone, brains and brawn, tears and heart inside each issue. The Family Post is not to be seen as a confederation of articles, advertisements, and calendars of events but, rather, it should be seen as readers, neighbors, local businesses, parents, and families. It spoke to families on a personal level about temper tantrums, picky eaters, and holiday depression. It connected families with one another. It supplied craft ideas for a rainy day, provided insight, and it allowed you to receive expert advice in those rare quiet moments without leaving your living room.

Although we feel a bit nostalgic, we also know the importance of taking a step back to reflect, evaluate, and consider how we can improve. The original vision did not establish a way to hear directly from the community, and that is an essential piece. We want to hear from you. We want to thank the faithful readers, writers, and advertisers, and we want you to know that this is hardly the end of an era. It’s just the end to a chapter.
